Open Cost of Fees Calculator

  1. Set capital and trading activity

Enter Starting balance, Avg trade notional and Trades / month. Notional is the approximate value controlled per trade, not the margin posted. The trade count is round trips: opening and closing one trade counts as one.

  2. Estimate spread and slippage cost

Set Spread cost as a percentage of trade notional, not as pips. For example, 0.02% of $50,000 is $10 per trade. Use an estimate appropriate to your instrument and activity.

  3. Enter the correct commission basis

Enter Commission amount and choose Per side or Round-turn. Per side doubles the entered amount for the open-and-close estimate; Round-turn treats it as the full trade cost.

  4. Include recurring costs

Enter Swap / overnight / month and Platform fee / month where they apply. Use zero for costs that do not apply, and avoid counting the same fee twice.

  5. Compare gross and net growth

Set Gross monthly return and Time horizon (months), then choose Recalculate. Review monthly cost drag, gross and net ending balances, the cost breakdown and profit consumed.

Use your own cost information

The presets are examples rather than account-specific quotes. Check the current spread, commission and overnight terms for your account and instrument. Compare alternative assumptions to see which costs matter most.
